The 5th Annual Conference of the Epilepsy Alliance Africa (EAA) will take place on 17–18 September 2025 during Zebra Epilepsy Stripes Week. The first day will be officially co-opened by Mr Banard Mbuya Onyango from Kenya, an advocate and person living with epilepsy.
Mr Onyango is the founder of the Banard Epilepsy Awareness Foundation Kenya (BEAFK), a non-profit organisation dedicated to raising awareness, supporting people with epilepsy, and reducing stigma in Kenyan communities. Through BEAFK, he has worked to bring attention to the challenges faced by persons with epilepsy and to promote inclusion and support at all levels of society.
His role in the opening of the conference highlights the importance of lived experience in shaping conversations about epilepsy advocacy, policy, and care. By bringing the voice of persons with epilepsy to the forefront, Mr Onyango’s participation strengthens the conference’s theme of uniting voices for greater impact.
