Honorable guests, esteemed colleagues, and fellow advocates,

I am honored to stand before you today as a Person Living with Epilepsy and as the current Vice President of the East African Region of the Epilepsy Alliance Africa (EAA). It is a privilege to give the opening address at the 5th International Epilepsy Conference, themed “Uniting Voices: Epilepsy, Advocacy, Innovation, and Impact.”

As someone who has lived with Epilepsy for 18 years, I understand the complexities and challenges that come with this Condition. Yet, my experience has also taught me the importance of resilience, advocacy, and Collaborative approach.

This conference brings together experts, advocates, and individuals affected by Epilepsy to share knowledge, innovations, and best practices. Our collective goal is to work towards reaching African targets of the Intersectoral Global Action Plan (IGAP) on Epilepsy and Other Neurological Disorders.

Through Advocacy, Innovation, and Collaboration, we can make a meaningful impact on the lives of Persons Living with Epilepsy. I look forward to engaging with the discussions and learning about the latest developments in Epilepsy Care and Advocacy.

Let us unite our voices to create a world where Persons Living with Epilepsy can thrive. ASANTENI SANA
