The Epilepsy Alliance Africa (EAA) will hold its 5th Annual Conference on 17–18 September 2025 during Zebra Epilepsy Stripes Week, an African-led awareness initiative. The conference will open with a keynote address by Professor Alla Guekht, President of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE).
Professor Guekht is Director of the Moscow Research and Clinical Center for Neuropsychiatry and Professor of Neurology at the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University. Her research focuses on epilepsy, cerebrovascular diseases, and neuropsychiatry.
She has held leadership positions in the ILAE and for more than 25 years has been active in World Health Organization (WHO) initiatives on epilepsy and brain health. She played a leading role in promoting epilepsy as a public health priority and contributed to the WHO–ILAE–IBE Global Report on Epilepsy, the World Health Assembly Resolution, and the Intersectoral Global Action Plan on Epilepsy and other Neurological Disorders. She was also involved in other strategic WHO documents on epilepsy, neurology, and brain health, including work during COVID-19. As a Trustee of the World Federation of Neurology (WFN), she has been central to the WFN’s collaboration with the UN and WHO, including the implementation of IGAP.
At the EAA Conference, Professor Guekht will be joined by Professor Najib Kissani, President of the EAA, and Mr Youssouf Noormamode, Chairperson of the International Bureau for Epilepsy (IBE) Africa Region.
